Iraq Import Data 2025 and Logistics Opportunities

The Central Bank of Iraq has shared foreign trade data for the first three quarters of 2025 with the public. According to the announced report, Iraq’s total imports reached 63.093 billion dollars in the first 9 months of the year, while the share of the private sector in foreign trade expenditures reached a remarkable level.

The report, which reveals the consumption trends and external dependency of the Iraqi economy, shows that a very large part of the supply of goods is provided through private enterprises.

The Private Sector Holds the Largest Share of Trade

The most striking detail in the data appeared in the sectoral distribution of imports. Approximately 91% of total imports are carried out by the private sector.

Private Sector Imports: 57.743 billion dollars

Public Sector Imports: 5.350 billion dollars

While the public sector mainly focuses on petroleum products and strategic needs to meet energy demand, the private sector’s massive volume of 57.7 billion dollars consists of food, textiles, durable consumer goods and capital goods required for production processes.

Year-End Expectation: 80 Billion Dollars

According to economists’ analyses, these figures reached in 9 months show that the Iraqi economy continues to have a consumption-based structure rather than a production-based one. The fact that domestic market demand is met through foreign markets instead of local production indicates that trade traffic at border gates and ports will continue to increase.

Considering exchange rate movements and monetary policies, the total import figure by the end of the year is expected to reach around 80 billion dollars.
